The Light at the End of the Tunnel" is a light and media installation in an underground metro station in Frankfurt, Germany. This Project is realized during the fifth Light Culture Festival in Frankfurt, Luminale 2010. The Luminale accompanies 'Light+ Building', the architecture and technology fair at which many new developments in the fields of lighting, electro technology and house and building automation make their world debuts.
Willy-Brandt Platz underground station is one of the busiest junctions in the city. It is not just determined by the underground, but also by the theatre, "Schauspiel Frankfurt". The illumination of this transit space makes use of the lighting experience of the theatre for this public space via interaction.
Mobile stage lights and an LED panel transform the large stairway to a stage set for passengers and passers-by. via motion tracking, as they move, they can activate quotes taken from the plays in Schauspiel Frankfurt's current programme; by stepping on one of the 'role fields' on the floor, they can trigger lighting, LEDs and sound; and with the ais of media feeds on the LED, they can even enter into dialogue with their fellow participants. The result is a 'quote theatre' that is generated by people's movements. *The official rights of all images, videos and text information of this project belongs to Atelier Markgraph GmbH, Frankfurt.
